ITDLH Higurakgoda, Polonnaruwa, Freelancer Development Initiative 2022 hosted by ICTA join hands with Educational Ministry — To support individuals to start their journey as a freelancer with the right mindset and skills to become successful.

The Story: Unplanned Trip to Polonnaruwa

The third workshop has begun physically at the ITDLH Centre in Hingurakgoda, with the goal of improving rural youth’s competencies and attitudes, as well as their socioeconomic status, by providing them with the necessary knowledge and practical learning experience to be successful freelancers and empowering them to conquer poverty and underemployment.

Yes, I went to Polonnaruwa twice in a row. I came to Hugurakgoda to do a session a few weeks after the program in Dimbulagala. This event wasn’t planned because of time & travel difficulties, but I went at the request of my beloved friend Amila Gunawardana which I couldn’t refuse and the event was amazing.

Enjoy doing what I love

I had a wonderful time with our team, and Amila’s assistance in the main speech made everything much easier and smoother for both the audience and me. They engaged and were inspired by how we use our real-life experiences, examples, and stories to explain complex subject-specific facts. Together we were able to deliver valuable advice and procedures to inspire them to get started.

Later, we traveled to Aranayaka, a remote corner of Kegalle, to speak at an event hosted by the Youth; although I wasn’t required to do a session there, I was asked to briefly discuss the freelancer industry and how to get started. It was different, of course, and I had to do the session bilingually (in Sinhala and English) because there was a large Tamil audience as well.

Capturing a few moments

There were around a hundred people in the audience. It was fascinating to see those curious minds listening to and engaging with us on every word we said, and we loved every minute of it.

Successful session indeed.

We discuss the freelancer roadmap and how they should get started. It was a successful session because there were approximately 100+ students who participated and engaged with us throughout the session.

We always improve and understand the requirement of these audiences and we’ll adapt and evolve to improve the program and how it’s delivered to them.
